Avery New World Porter

Avery New World PorterBrew: Avery New World Porter

Location: Boulder, Colorado

First Impressions:
I didn’t particularly care for the bottle’s design as it was plain and old fashioned. A clear glass in front of me showed that the brew had a dark robust color to it and was somewhat intimating.

Aroma: A scent of day old coffee filled the air and I did not need to take a sniff. Some chocolate came through after a deeper inspection.

Overall Taste:
The New World Porter is a “black beast”, but one can tell that much from just the smell. At first sip the overriding black malts slapped my senses silly and make me wonder if I was drinking a cappuccino or a brew. Before my glass was half empty my taste buds had adjusted to the flavor and I realized this porter was better than I had originally expected.
Trust me, you won’t have to search for any flavor in this bad boy, it will come find you. On the way down the porter has come balance to it, which I enjoyed. The brew isn’t overly dark, nor is it overly hoppy. To let you in on a little secret, I do not usually try porters out, but this was one of those occasions where I was in for a pleasant surprise.
